Other Protocol Areas Under Consideration

The following projects types are being considered for potential protocol development. This means they have signaled interest to Climate Change Central and may be at various stages within the Alberta Protocol Development Process.

The development of a new protocol requires different degrees of coordination of relevant scientific research and/or technical data related to the GHG reduction or removal activity. The coordination of science and technical information take the form of technical seed document(s) (TSDs). These are working documents that identify the potential practices/technologies that will lead to the emission reductions/removals and draw upon Best Practice Guidance to identify relevant activity data, emission factors and formulae to arrive at sound quantification approaches and verifiability of the project type.

The following areas have been recognized as potential project-types for the Alberta Offset System and are being developed/reviewed by protocol developers for system eligibility.

  • Covered Manure Storage (Agriculture)
  • Conversation to Perennial Cropping (Agriculture)
  • Pasture Management (Agriculture)
  • Fuel Use Efficiency (Agriculture)
  • Biofibres (Agriculture)
